Lynn E. Parsons

Lynn Edward Parsons, 84, was welcomed back into the arms of his Lord on July 31, 2011. Born of medical missionary parents in Peking, China, he made his home in El Paso for 75 years. A graduate of Ysleta High School and then Texas Western College, he left his beloved El Paso for 3 years to serve his country in the US Navy. Mr. Parsons was a devoted employee of El Paso Natural Gas Company for over 35 years. He served as a deacon at Pilgrim Congregational Church & was a Youth Fellowship leader at Western Hills United Methodist Church. He was passionate about living life to the fullest. This he demonstrated in the loves of his life – his sons and family, his friends, his church, his career and his hobbies. He served as Scout Master to two of the finest Boy Scout Troops in the Yucca Council, Troop 29 and Troop 59. Scout Master Parsons took particular pride in working with many outstanding young men through the years and guiding an exemplary number of them to the rank of Eagle Scout. In recognition of his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, Lynn was awarded the high rank of Silver Beaver. With an ardent compulsion Lynn was an eager competitor. His love of sports and athletic prowess drove him in all he attempted. He loved to Square Dance, play tennis, golf, ping-pong and to swim many of which he did into his eighth decade. This was rewarded by winning championships on local and regional levels and numerous metals while competing in the National Senior Olympics. He is survived by his three sons, Howard, Edward and David, their families including five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sons mother Bettye Parsons Stephens and his brothers Allen & Edward Heininger along with an extensive blended family. He is predeceased by his brother Jack, sisters Sylvia and Jean as well as his wife of 22 years, Barbara. Funeral services will be held at Sunset – West Funeral Home, 480 N. Resler at 9:45 am on Friday, August 12, 2011. Final Interment will be immediately following at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
