Lynn Spencer Bras

March 2, 1930 — May 7, 2008

Our beloved mother, Lynn Spencer Bras, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. She was born in El Paso on March 2, 1930 to Loretta and Paul Grant. She was a lifetime resident of El Paso except for living 12 years in Puerto Rico. She was a life long teacher and scholar. Although she had varied interest, her main passion was geology. She combed the mountains in and around EP looking for and collecting hundreds of minerals and fossils. In addition, she had a large collection of shells and corals. She received a degree in elementary education and a master degree in reading from UTEP and taught countless children about the joys of reading and writing Often, theses students when grown, would come up to her and exclaim, “You were my teacher!” She began her career as a teacher at Canutillo Elementary School and eventually served as one of its principals. She was a tenured professor of English Composition at Inter American University in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She retired as an assistant professor and Language and Linguistics at UTEP. She was an active member of the National Society of Arts and Letters and was a gifted artist who held several offices in the Westside Art Guild. Her paintings were widely exhibited in Puerto Rico and locally at the Chamizal and EP Museum of History. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and took much comfort in the fellowship of the Business Women’s Sunday school class. She studied the Bible diligently and faithfully attended Bible Study Fellowship classes for many years. Her husband, the love of her life, Armando and her parents procede her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Kerry White (Dale) and Ann Spencer; brother, Bill Grant (Celia); aunt Ruby Grant; 3 nieces-Gayle, Carol and Kathyrn Grant; 2 nephews, Kevin and Shayne Grant; a cousin, Marilyn Jones (Ed); Stepsons, Armando (Barb) and Emilio (Gabriella); and 5 grandchildren.
