Luz M. Duron

March 2, 1927 — June 20, 2007

The dazzling smile and sparkle in her eyes for which she was known, went out of Luz Duron on June 20, 2007 after a lengthy battle with rheumatoid arthritis. To the end, she kept her strong faith in God, her keen wit, sharp memory, and her prayers to all whom she loved. She could recite the Bible faster than you could read it to her. She is survived by her five children, Linda, Jesse, Cristina, Armando and Julie. She was proud of the love and devotion her son-in-law, Martin Lara, Sr., had for her youngest daughter, Julie. She is survived by 10 grandchildren, one, was almost like a son, Christopher. Another, Melissa, thought of her as a superstar. Two grandkids she crocheted blankets and sent many overseas gifts to, Cindy and Gaby. Three grandkids she missed and always spoke of: Philip, Belinda, Mark Anthony. Three grandkids who adored her and chose a visit to Grandma Lucy's over a visit to Disneyland: Martin Jr., Talia, and Joshua Lara. She was also a great-grandmother to 14, her eldest great-grandchild Tanisha, who grew up in Bronx, NY called her "Spanish-Grandma with a backyard". The family of Luz Duron would like to especially thank Natalia DeGuire for loving our mother, taking care of her in her final years, and being closer than a sister. We love you, Nati. To Bertha Lugo for telling us how our mother was like a mother to her. To all of our mother's friends who stopped by with amazing stories of her thoughtfulness and generosity. Thank you to our wonderful neighbor, Mrs. Botelho for all the visits, amusing conversation, and German pastries. Thank you to Gloria Henry, Becky Horowitz and Yadi Zapp and Hospice/VNA. Kindest of thanks to Esther Marek and Martha Coolaw for their comforting and beautiful prayers which our mother looked forward to. Although her longtime, failing health was difficult for our mother to bear, she was a fighter and confessed to Esther and Martha that she didn't want to go because she didn't want to leave her children. They explained to her the greater power she will have in looking after her children from Heaven above. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass at 11:30 am on Monday, June 25, 2007. Burial at Desert View Cemetery in Chaparral, New Mexico immediately following the services. Special thank you to Pastor Esteban Avila from Centro Familiar Cristiano for presiding over another Christian family funeral and assuring our Mother of the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ for our Heavenly Father God. We thank God for giving our Mother the great strength to persevere and raise her 5 children and 2 grandchildren Christopher and Melissa all in the presence of our Lord. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Please visit on-line register book at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
