Lucio Mendoza, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Lucio was born on December 15,1929 in Mesilla Park, NM. He graduated from Fabens High School and left to serve his country proudly in the United States Army. Upon his return he attended Texas Western College. He later married the love of his life in 1956, Maria.
Lucio worked for the U.S. Postal Service for thirty-three years and retired as a Postal Clerk in 1987. He later continued a second career as a Security Specialist. He lived and practiced a life of Faith and was always such a loving, caring, giving, and selfless man humbled by the kindness he received from others. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally and was at his happiest when surrounded by the love of family and friends. He was a quiet man but had an irresistible and engaging presence as revealed by the way his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were drawn to be in his company. He was the BEST Dad EVER and will be dearly missed. Lucio is preceded in death by his sons; Lucio Jr. and Jose, his parents, Andres and Luz Mendoza, brothers Lupe, Marcos, Jose, Nemecio, Magdaleno, and Gregorio Mendoza. He leaves behind his wife of sixty-five years Maria (Mary) Mendoza, daughters Lucille Montes, Laura Vigil, and son David Mendoza. Grandchildren Jose Montes, Michael Montes (Kayla), David (Cynthia Nicole) Montes, Lauren Vigil (Abel Levario), Jacob Vigil, Alaina Mendoza, Alyssa Mendoza (Lee Ik-soo), and Alexa Mendoza and nine great grandchildren. He also leaves behind sisters Connie (Ben) Simon, Luisa Villanueva, and Josie (Johnny) Arellano and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Jose Montes, Michael Montes, David Montes, Jacob Vigil, David Mendoza, Gabriel Mendoza, George Mendoza, and Aurelio Diaz Jr. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM with Vigil/Rosary at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Homes- East with Committal Service to follow at 2:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
