Lucia Rivera

October 11, 1931 — August 23, 2011

Lucia Rivera, beloved daughter of our Lord Jesus, passed peacefully to His warm embrace on August 23. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Jesus (Roro) Rivera. Born in El Paso to Nino and Ana Ontiveros, she was a life-long El Pasoan. Mom retired from E.P.I.S.D. in 1996 where she worked with students as a paraprofessional in various Special Education settings. A quiet yet powerful presence in the classroom, she truly enjoyed instructing and assisting the most seriously challenged students. She was blessed to work with many dedicated and caring administrators and instructors throughout her years of service. Mom will be remembered most for her humble and gentle heart, a prayerful spirit which welcomed and embraced people from all walks of life, and a home and kitchen open to all. Left to cherish heartfelt memories and carry on life-lessons are children: Rick (Connie), Ron (Aurora), Ray, Roseann, and John (Virginia); grandchildren: Adrian, Richard, Jacque, Lauren, Caleb, Maya, and Jonah; and great-grandchild, Dallas. She is also survived by her brother, Ruly (Dolores); nieces: Marti and Bobbi; and nephew, Butch. She also leaves behind close relatives from both Ontiveros and Morales families. Mom also had many close friends. Please know that all of you hold a special place in her heart. Special thanks goes out to Dr. Ines Sanchez and her staff (Valerie and Annette), the 4th floor Oncology staff at Sierra Medical, and Butch Ontiveros. All of you provided a loving care and commitment we shall always remember. Please join us for a Celebration Memorial Service Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast on Hondo Pass at 3:00 PM. Thanks Mama, for teaching us to do everything in love, showing gentleness and kindness to all. We will miss you! Till we meet again in His everlasting presence. For a mere moment I have forsaken you, but with great mercies I will gather you. I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you. Isaiah 54
