Lois Marie Sandquist Rystad

Lois Marie Sandquist Rystad was born September 30, 1915 near Villisca, Iowa. Upon graduation from high school she moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she attended secretarial school and became the Executive Secretary for the CEO of Bankers Life. In 1940 she married Grant A. Rystad with whom she shared 54 loving years. In 1955 they moved to El Paso where she became an active member of the El Paso Garden Club, Pilot Club, Norwegian Society, several bridge clubs and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Lois was a talented artist and shared her love of painting with the other artists at Wellington Chew Senior Center. She was also an avid gardener and won several awards for her flower arrangements. She was employed for several years by Oursland Insurance as office manager then as church secretary at St Paul’s until retirement. She is survived by her son Greg Rystad and her daughter Diane Rystad Adelson her grandchildren; Kristin (Brian) McKee, Kim (Bob) Kuykendall, Allen (April) Rystad, Gregory (Erin) Rystad, Grant Aaron (Angela) Rystad, Shawnee Adelson and 15 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers please make donations to St Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, White Acres Retirement Village or the El Paso Animal Rescue League. Visitation: 5-7 pm Thursday February 24, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
