Lily Belle Hovey Kubinski

January 28, 1926 — March 5, 2012

“Not Goodbye Just, See You Later Mom!" Lily Belle Hovey Kubinski peacefully closed those beautiful sparkling blue eyes for the last time here on earth March 5th, 2012. The matriarch of the Kubinski family has turned the next page of her existence, one fantastic life leading to another! The mother of 7 children, 6 boys and one daughter, 12 grandchildren and only one husband by her side for over 50 years, did an amazing job of raising all of us. Thank you Mom for instilling the rock solid foundation in us that we have built our lives upon. We will all miss you and love you for the millions of things that you did for all of us. Lily was born on 1-28-1926 and grew up in the fertile farmlands of Cresco, Iowa. Hard work and long hours were no stranger to her from an early age. She attended a one room school house full of kids she helped care for to one day having 7 kids of her own. Lily always excelled in school, graduating with honors and went on to earn her degree in nursing, and worked in local area hospitals. That was her career path until she met Stan on a blind date. Wow, I would have loved to hear that first conversation! He used his convincing charm and regaled her with stories of travel and riches until she fell for him. They did travel and there were riches. They went from Seattle to Minneapolis and eventually to El Paso enriching their lives with all of us kids along the way. Dad often said that their riches were in their children and we were all richly blessed to have had her as a Mom. Lily was very active in the local voting precincts, PTA's, Civic associations and of course grocery stores. She was an avid reader, seamstress, cook, teacher and house planner wearing every imaginable hat that Moms of great character have worn for ages. She spent the last few years In San Antonio and Albuquerque relaxing and enjoying the quiet after the storm of such a large brood. Stan and Karen now greet her and they get to look into those sparkling blue eyes again. The same ones that Stan fell for all those years ago. Imagine, Stan and Karen hand in hand as they watch Lily's dancing blue eyes gaze in amazement at the awesome wonders that God has prepared for all of us who believe! So Mom, this is in no way "Goodbye." It is simply, A heartfelt, " See you Later!" Lily is preceded in death by her husband Stanley and her only daughter Karen Hansel. She leaves son Paul & wife Kathy & their sons, Kyle, Ryan & Tyler, son Dave & wife Trish, son Mike & wife Teri & their children, Stephanie, Amy & Mark, son Steve & wife Kim and their children Michael and Brittany, Karen's husband Glenn Hansel & son Dominick, son Dan & wife Tracy & daughters Lauren & Brenna Rose & son Jim & wife Dawn & their children Andrew, Aaron & Annabelle. There will be a graveside service at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:30 pm for friends and family with a memorial gathering to follow. Lily’s care has been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
