Our beautiful mother, Leonor Garnica Hernandez, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of the angels and her God on October 6, 2016, surrounded in love by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many lifelong friends.
Mom is preceded in death by the father of her children, Bernardo S. Hernandez, and her beloved brothers and sisters: Luis Garnica, Marcelino Garnica, Juan Garnica (Petra), Jose Garnica (Lore), Carmen Flores (Pedro), Francisca Jacques (Kiko), and Margarita Garnica.
Mom is survived by her children, Maria Vitela (Antonio), Berta Gutierrez (Rafa), Magdalena Juarez (Robert), Socorro Alvarado, Teresa Hernandez, Beatriz Hernandez, Rosie Ontiveros (Joe), Jaime Hernandez (Rosemary), and Angelica Ontiveros (Chito). Mom is also survived by the loves of her life: 26 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Our mom, first and foremost, was very patriotic. Tears came to her eyes upon seeing the American flag waving majestically anywhere. She loved her country. She also collected frogs and dolls. She loved her music, flowers, and gardening. She traveled and saw many beautiful things and places. She loved her God and taught us by example. Above all, she loved her family. She breathed and lived in the love of all her grandchildren. She was happiest spending time with lifelong friends and beloved relatives. Although our lives and families will never be the same, we will honor her love by keeping her in our hearts. And by asking ourselves, "What would mom, or grandma, do or think?" But most importantly, by protecting and loving each other always in her memory.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas. A prayer service will take place at 7 p.m. A chapel service will be held the following day, Monday, October 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas.
