Leonard R. McGuirk

September 21, 1924 — October 31, 2012

Leonard R. ( Len) McGuirk 21 Sep 1924-31 Oct 2012 After fighting the good fight, Len went peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Vermillion SD, raised in Neck City, MO until age 16 he then moved to Longview WA and graduated high school. In Dec 1941 he joined the Navy and eight years later transferred to the US Air Force and retired in 1962. Len graduated from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls,TX and began his career in Civil Service. Soon he transferred to Alamogordo, NM and on to William Beaumont Army Hospital in 1972 where he met and married Judy. Their Civil Service careers took them to Germany and Korea and he retired from Ft Bliss in 1984. Len was a member of the Lions Club for over 40 years and active in the Navy League, Sheriff’s Advisory Committee, Discover El Paso, VFW, American Legion and NAUS. He was also an Associate State Coordinator for the AARP Driver Safety Program for several years. Len is survived by his beloved wife Judy of 40 years; three daughters, Patti and husband Pat Hogeboom, Roanoke, VA; Cindy and husband Dr. Rod Batie, Springfield OH; Michelle and husband Doug Mc Phillips, Patterson, CA; and stepson Joe Iozia, Houston, TX; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grand children; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond McGuirk and Eula McGuirk Howard; brother; and his first wife Mary, the mother of his daughters. A special thanks to VNA Hospice for their loving care and support as well as our devoted friends. Visitation will be from 4-8pm, Sunday November 4, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin at 12pm, Monday November 5, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to VNA Hospice of El Paso, Living Alone Program, 4171 N. Mesa, Bldg D, El Paso, TX 79902.
