Lt. Col Leonard T. Dillon, retired, died June 26, 2009. He was 85 years old at the time of his death, and had lived at Good Samaritan White Acres Retirement Community and at Desert Springs in El Paso, Texas. Lt. Col Dillon was stationed in many places during his career in the Air Force, including Wiesbaden, Germany; French Morocco; and in eight states prior to his retirement. He served as a bombardier/navigator and spent most of his career in various operational assignments predominately with Titan and Minuteman Missiles. He retired from the Air Force with 30 years of service. Upon his retirement he was presented the Air Force Meritorious Service Award. Born in Superior, Wisconsin to John and Emma Dillon, Lt. Col. Dillon was the oldest of five children. He has two surviving brothers, James of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and William of Boulder, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his brother Ray, of Vermillion, South Dakota, and his sister Ella Widdicombe, of Ottawa, Kansas. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Edythe M. Dillon of El Paso, Texas; four children, Barry L. Dillon of Stafford, Virginia; Shelley D. Rodriquez of El Paso, Texas; David Craig Dillon of El Paso, Texas; and Dorothy Colleen Alfonso of Coral Springs, Florida, as well as 10 grandchildren. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. on July 3, 2009 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Alzheimer Association.
