Leona J. Johnson

Leona Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at midnight at her home in El Paso Sunday evening August 22, 2011. She was born in Scranton, PA on October 23, 1946. After High School she left Scranton and traveled extensively as a Military Spouse to posts in Okinawa, Japan; Taipei, Taiwan; and Germany as well as several U.S. Posts including Ft. Bliss, TX. During that time she was a Government Employee, highly trained in several Government Service Positions including Security. Her last position was at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. She also operated several private businesses. She was an El Paso resident since 1981. Leona devoted much time volunteering for several local causes in particular the Amigo AirShow for many years. She is survived by her husband, Bill Johnson; daughters: Pamela and Karla Berghauser; grandchildren: Louie Berghauser, Benny Carnivale and Jordyn Almanza all of El Paso; sisters: Arlene Harris and Donna Phillips of Warrenton, VA, Teresa Kohut of Apalachin, NY, and Joan Rogers of Binghamton, NY; brothers: Vincent Julio of Philadelphia, PA and Michael Julio of Scranton, PA. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm with a Memorial Service to begin at 7pm, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Procession will be at 10am with the Committal Service to begin at 10:30am, Friday, August 26, 2011 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
