CW3 (Ret) Leo Anderson, born in Bigelow, Ark on Sept 24, 1921, left this earth to be with the Lord on Nov. 3rd 2008. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, he succumbed to cancer after a courageous and valiant 4 yr battle. Like the hero he was, our father fought the good fight, never wavering, staying true to his character. He was a veteran of WWII earning the Bronze Star. He also served in the Korean War and was a proud member of the 1st Calvary Division. Later, he served as a civilian advisor in the Vietnam War. He worked at White Sands Missile Range; and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1978 with a combined service of 35 yrs. He lived in El Paso since 1958. His favorite past-time was fishing or sitting on the back porch with his family. Many will remember him for the songs he sang, poems he recited; his smile, laughter, and love. At the time of his passing he was at home surrounded by his loving and devoted wife of 59 yrs, Evelyn; and children Barbara (Joe), Donald, Teresa, Fred (Kim), Diane, and Cynthia. He is also survived by his sisters, Martha Lowry of Washington, Hilda Cox of Mississippi, and Virginia Whiteside of Alabama. He has also left behind fourteen, grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grand child. We would like to extend our greatest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the El Paso VA Health Care Center; Dr. Cameron of El Paso Orthopedic Surgery Group, Dr. Newlon of WBAMC, Dr’s. Gupta and Chesbro at Texas Oncology; and the nurses of Global Hospice. In the words of his granddaughters Stephanie (Eloy) and Casey (Craig), “He is the greatest man ever to walk this earth in our lifetime”. Services are private. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
