Lena (Lucas) Wilbourn passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 10, 2016 at the age of 86 after a brave battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born in DeVille, Louisiana, on March 29, 1930, to David and Virga (Moses) Lucas. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert “Bob”, and children: Jennifer Miller (John) of El Paso, Texas; Robert D. (Linda) of Nashville, Tennessee; Jonathan of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and grandchildren Katherine Elizabeth Carroll, Jacob Alexander Carroll, Zachary Robert Carroll, John Ryan Miller and Mahrlena Joyce Wilbourn. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Ruffner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lena graduated from Buckeye High School in DeVille, Louisiana where she played every sport that was open to girls at the time, and later in life was an avid tennis player. She attended Louisiana Baptist College where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and was eventually the president of the El Paso Alumnae Chapter. She was living in Dallas when she met the love of her life, Bob. They moved to his hometown, and they happily lived in El Paso for the next 53 years.
In life, Lena’s number one priority was being a good wife, mother and grandmother. Additionally, she was not only involved in, but served as an integral part of her husband’s business, Wilbourn Company. She also loved to serve in numerous volunteer positions benefitting children, such as Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Girl Scouts, and was a member of the Western Hills United Methodist Church, and sang in the choir for 35 years. In later life, she enjoyed her daily walks, spoiling her grandchildren and travel with her husband.
Lena had a way of making her house feel like a home. She will be greatly missed by all. She will be buried in a private family ceremony at Ft. Bliss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Parkinson’s Association, Inc. www.apdaparkinson.org or to Western Hills United Methodist Church, 524 Thunderbird, El Paso, Texas, 79912.
