Our beloved mother, Kazuko “Peggy” Jeffries, 92, of El Paso, TX, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2023, after a brief illness.
Kazuko was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, City of Hofu, Japan to parents Chiyo Wajima, and Gu Ichi Wajima, on October 25, 1930. She married Harold Ray Jeffries on January 13, 1959.
After moving to El Paso in 1973, she established herself as an expert seamstress and worked for twenty years at Fashions by Tami. She designed high school band and cheerleading uniforms, Halloween costumes, and wedding dresses for her three daughters (and many others).
Throughout her life, she was a devout Southern Baptist and built lifelong friendships with many wonderful Christian women while a member at Northgate Baptist, Apollo Heights, and most recently Mountain View Baptist churches.
In 2008, she was blessed with her first and only grandson, Xavier Sciulli. Kazuko celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary to Harold Ray in 2009. She enjoyed traveling to New Mexico, North Carolina, and Virginia to visit her daughters, sons-in-law and especially her grandson.
Kazuko was graceful, sweet, and brave. She will be missed by many who loved her gentleness, smile, and laughter.
Kazuko is survived by her three daughters Felicia Kim Gieck and husband Max Gieck, Safrona Renee O’Brien and husband Shawn O’Brien, Sabrina Jo Jeffries Sciulli and husband Dino Sciulli, and their son Xavier Michael Sciulli. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Ginko Jalbert.
The visitation will be held July 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home on 4631 Hondo Pass, with a graveside service to be held afterwards at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nursing staff at Providence Hospital Sierra Campus and the staff and management of Serenity House Assisted Living for providing loving care to our mother during her final days.
