Katili "Karl" Widjaja

Katili “Karl” Widjaja (Oey Hong Kiat), age 88, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 23, 2023, in El Paso, Texas. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Katili is preceded in death by his dearest parents; Oey Gwan Mo and Tjoa Tjoen Hiang; He is survived by his loving wife; Julianti Widjaja; his children; Jani Widjaja (Sook) and Martino Widjaja (Fatima); his siblings; Oey (Kho) Lian Pian, Oey Hong Sioe, Oey Hong Pie, Oey (Kaspar) Lian Tien and Oey Hong Pek; and his wonderful grandchildren; Nicole Widjaja, Courtney Widjaja, Ethan Widjaja, Hugo Widjaja and Arabella Widjaja. He is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor his memory.

Karl, as he was known by his friend in El Paso, was born in Indonesia. He and his family moved to El Paso in 1979. It was here that he plied his skills in auto mechanic to open an auto shop. Karl was known by his friends for his skills, generosity, and honesty. As a matter of fact, many of his customers became friends for life.

Karl loved to travel but unfortunately, he lost most of his visions shortly after retirement. He managed to keep busy by visiting family, friends, and various activities with a former customer who became his best friend, the late Jose Baca.

Karl was recently diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer. He opted to spend his last days at home under his family and hospice care. Karl passed at home peacefully amongst his family.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West.
