Kamal Abdullah Mahmood peacefully passed away on October 01, 2023. Kamal was born in Mosul, Iraq on June 14, 1943. He originally moved to El Paso to study Electrical Engineering at Texas Western College, now UTEP. While working at G.U.S. Manufacturing, he designed seismic exploration equipment for which he received several patents. He also assisted NASA in space exploration projects. After many years as an engineer, he ventured on his own. As an entrepreneur he had several successful businesses involved in the garment industry and engineering. Later in life he dedicated his time to construction and gardening; always interested in learning more and exploring new ideas. He was an avid chess player and a great cook, making dishes such as dolma for his friends and family.
Kamal is preceded in death by his son; Yashar and his brother; Yeksan. He is survived by his son; Demir, his daughter; Özlem, his ex-wife; Hilda, his grandsons; Kane, Gray, and Chase as well as his siblings in Turkey and Iraq; Fahmi, Ismet, Yashar, Yanar, Gulum, and Suzanne. He will be missed.
