Julio Nunez Rivera

Julio Rivera Núñez, 93, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Julio was born in Manati, Puerto Rico on September 3, 1928 to Juan Núñez and Catalina Rivera.  He left school after the seventh grade and worked in a factory in order to help his family.  At the age of 17, he joined the US Army to serve his country.  He served a total of 22 years working as a mechanic on various missile systems.  He served multiple tours in Germany, Okinawa, Japan, Panama, and Greece, he also earned his GED during this time.  Julio married the love of his life, Marcelina Cruz, in 1955.  Together they had nine children.

Julio was a great auto mechanic and loved to work on vehicles, often helping out friends and family.  He also enjoyed gardening and working around the house.  He loved spending time with his family and could often be found enjoying a meal at Village Inn.

Julio was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marcelina, his daughter, Luz Edania  Núñez, his granddaughter, Magdalena Pabon, and his great-granddaughter, Mila Francis.  He is survived by 5 daughters: Teresa Lugo, Lidia Núñez, Yolanda Taylor, Daisy Coffie, and Leticia Núñez, and 4 sons:  Julio Núñez Jr, David Rivera, Nestor Núñez, and Raul Núñez.  He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be  from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive.  Funeral Mass will begin at 12:30pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at  Sunset Funeral Homes - Northeast.  Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.(West Shelter)
