Julian Pacheco

August 4, 1947 — August 23, 2010

Julian “Curly” Pacheco, Jr. was born on August 4, 1947 in Deming, New Mexico. He was called to our Lord on August 23, 2010. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science from the University of Texas at El Paso. Julian was a Vietnam Veteran as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, “Screaming Eagles”. My dad had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve known. He was always passionate about helping others in any way he could. He gave without ever expecting anything in return. He found joy in helping others. He loved to teach and valued education. While achieving his Masters Degree from UTEP, he would nourish his love for education by substituting for the El Paso Independent School District. He loved to travel and it took him as far as Hanoi, Vietnam. During his extended visits to Vietnam, he would teach English at the University of Hanoi. He was a great father, and always a close friend. He was blessed with a green thumb, which allowed any garden or tree he touched to blossom. He poured love into everything he did, including caring for his dogs and treating them as his own family members. He enjoyed learning and reading about politics, history, and especially WWII, and he was always quick to share his knowledge with others. His kind, gentle, loving and giving heart will surely be missed. He is survived by his children Julian "Chito" Pacheco III, Pedro "Peter" Pacheco, Francesa Prat and Mariana Pacheco; his sister Peggy Pennington and Aunt Consuelo Ponce; his ex-wife and friend Yolanda Holguin. He is also survived by his grand children Jordan Prat, Alondra Prat, and Emiliano Hernandez. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home-West, with a Vigil at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 27, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
