It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Julia “Julie” Gonzalez Cardenas.
She passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday, December 26, 2022, surrounded by her family, in the comfort of the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Al & Mary Cardenas. Julie was born in Fort Davis, Texas but was a lifelong resident of El Paso. She was a proud graduate of Austin High School. As a very dedicated and loyal employee, she worked for Harding-Orr and McDaniel as a bookkeeper in the insurance department and later found her most satisfying occupation in the pro shop of Ascarate Golf Course. Here she spent twenty-two years in a job she loved, but more importantly, a place where she greeted everyone with her beautiful smile and professional, courteous customer service. She met wonderful people during her time there, many who remained lifelong friends and who, with us, mourn her passing.
Julie was an amazing and loving woman who was grounded in her profound faith in the Lord. Her prayers for her family proved time and time again to keep us safe, healthy, protected and will certainly be missed. She loved music and loved dancing; spending many Sunday afternoons dancing with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and is survived by her children: Alma Orozco, Brenda Castaneda, Debbie Velasquez (Robert), Al Cardenas, Jr. (Mary), and Michael Valles (Veronica). She also leaves behind her 16 beloved grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, whom
she loved greatly and felt a responsibility to caring for, and loving them in the absence of their parents - her siblings, who passed before her.
The family would like to thank the extraordinary care and compassion provided by nurses Desiree, Danni, and Celene, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice. We will forever be grateful for the guidance we needed to prepare for the passing of our beloved mother.
Pallbearers will be Al Cardenas, Jr., Michael Valles, Arthur Orozco, Joey Castaneda, Gino Velasquez, and Adriel Ayala. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Velasquez, Jacob Castaneda, Vance Valles Jerry Gonzalez, Danny Lozano, and Erich Rodriguez.
