Juan Román, 74, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Juan was born in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico on September 9, 1949. During his early years he worked in many different jobs to support his mother Antonia and their family. These jobs included barber, shoe shiner, and jeweler. In his 20s he immigrated to the United States and found his love for the service industry where he would work as a waiter for more than 40 years. Juan went on to work waitering jobs at the 1984 Summer Olympics in California, 1996 Super Bowl XXX, and many more. Juan eventually settled down in El Paso, Texas where he worked at the Marriott for 33 years, finishing his long career in the service industry at 69 years old.
When Juan wasn’t working he loved to support his favorite sports teams. His teams were Las Chivas de Guadalajara, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Francisco 49ers. Juan was an avid collector of enamel pins and unique beers. His passion for artists like Pink Floyd, U2, Los Temerarios, and Los Terricolas, meant that music was often at full volume in his house. The last few years of his life Juan found peace and comfort in keeping his garden clean and tidy.
