May 9, 1928 — February 20, 2011

Juan Castro, Jr., 82, lifelong resident of El Paso, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2011 with his family by his side. He was a Korean War Veteran, 40th Division, 160th Infantry, Company G. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with one service star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He retired as a U.S. Immigration Officer in 1982. He is preceded in death by father, Juan Castro, Sr., mother, Baldomera Castro, and sisters Maria de los Angeles Yanez and Alicia Castro. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Soledad P. Castro; sons, David Castro (Yongmei Cissy), Martin Castro, and Oscar Castro. Daughter, Dolores Bretado (Salvador, Jr.). Brothers, M.J. “Chuy” Castro, Hector Castro (Elida), Enrique Castro (Irene), and Ricardo Castro (Gloria). Sisters, Gloria Gomez and Rosa Herlinda Russell, and several nieces and nephews. Grandsons, Adrian Bretado (Deanna), Eric Bretado, and Nicholas Bretado. Pallbearers will be Marcelino Yanez, Jr., Gerard O’Brien, Edward Castaneda, Hector Castro, Lee Nadler, Salvador Bretado, Jr., Paul Sandoval, and Henry Sandoval. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 4 to9 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be held at 12pm on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2709 Alabama. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Special thanks to the El Paso Veterans Center for their support, and the compassionate staff at Sierra Medical Center.
