Joy Celestine Swenson

Joy Celestine Jones Swenson (Sept 22, 1930 – March 25, 2010) Joy passed away peacefully with her husband and daughter by her side. Joy was very active in volunteer work. She was secretary for the Boy Scouts, Den Mother, anything when needed. She was Room Mother at the lower Grades of School, all the way to President of the PTA and when she didn’t have a School PTA office, she tackled the City Council PTA for all of El Paso. She held all the Office Positions there are at the City of El Paso, and in the Rio Grande ABWA. In 1980, she was the ABWA Woman of the Year, and was nominated for the Boss of the Year, 1982. She worked for Sears 10/17/1966 though 12/31/1982 as Catalog Sales Manager. She was manager at Rhino Self Storage then moved on to be manager at Windsor Apartments for many years. Joy leaves behind, her husband of 59 years, Saldor Godfrey Swenson, 3 sons, John Henry Swenson, Michael Cooner, and Saldor Alfred Swenson, and 1 daughter, Melody Swenson Rappleyea. Joy was preceded by 2 sons, Oscar Thomas Swenson and Wesley Carl Swenson. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, March 29, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Service at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
