Josephine R. Escobar

March 16, 1935 — October 2, 2023

El Paso, Texas

Josephine R. Escobar, 88, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 while surrounded by family. Josephine (Josie, Guerra) was born in El Paso, Texas, on March 16, 1935 to Jose and Aurora Rios.

She met and married Air Force member Hector Escobar and together raised a family of five children. Josephine worked as a seamstress at Farah Manufacturing for several years, and later as an employee of EPISD. Josephine was an exceptional wife and mother who cared deeply for her family and friends of which she had many. She did this not out of obligation but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help to whoever needed it. In her later years, Josephine found great joy in her role as a grandmother to her five grandchildren. One could often find her tending to her garden, curled up with a good book, or in an aromatic kitchen cooking Sunday dinner. She was immensely proud of her children’s accomplishments and let the world know. Her greatest love in life was her family, who will miss her infinitely.

She is preceded in death by her children Rebecca Avila, Anthony Escobar and Sylvia Rivera. Her siblings Dolores (Lola) Ontiveros, Altagracia (Talacha) Villanueva, Francisca (Kika) Rios,  Guillermo (Memo) Rios, Elena (Nena) Tellez and Alicia (Licha) Rivera. Josephine is survived by her husband, Hector Escobar; her siblings Matilde (Tila) Marquez; Jose (Chito) Rios Jr., her children, Lisa Escobar, Hector Escobar Jr., Christine Llewellyn and her grandchildren Veronica and Jacob Avila, Natalie and Dylan Llewellyn and Emilio Escobar.
