CWO3 Joseph J. Nacca (Jack) U.S. Army Ret, a resident of Chaparral, NM., since 1977 passed way on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the age of 77. Jack was the true consummate professional and dedicated his life to serving his country and community. Born in Rochester, NY, He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 at the age of 17 and served as an enlisted man until 1967, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. That same year, he was appointed Warrant Officer and continued serving until his retirement in 1977 after 27 years of dedicated service. During his career in the U.S. Army, he served one combat tour of duty during the Korean War and two tours during the Vietnam War. For his courageous actions in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star medal, Meritorious Service medal, and the combat infantryman’s badge. Jack was also honored recipient of numerous other decorations for his distinguished service. After his retirement, he continued serving the community of Chaparral, NM, as the founder and director of the Chaparral Crime Patrol, where he served in this capacity until his retirement in 2008. During his tenure as director; he once again distinguished himself by his dedicated service. He worked relentlessly and untiringly to assist the Deputies of the Otero County, NM, Sheriff’s Department, which earned him the respect, trust and gratitude of all. He gave unselfishly of himself to his friends and colleagues expecting nothing in return, but always ready to lend a helping hand. His love also extended to his two faithful companions, Big Yellow Dog and Molly, his dogs, which he cared for deeply. Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we thank God for allowing you to be part of our lives and the friendship you shared with us. We have lost a true friend and you will be missed. Now that you have been embraced by the loving arms of lord, may you have eternal peace. Jack is survived by his beloved brother, Robert Nacca of Rochester, NY. Committal Service will be held at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. We humbly ask that in lieu of flower arrangements, donations be made to any cancer research institution. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
