The world lost a true Saint this past Labor Day-September 4th, 2023.
Josefa Nevarez Martinez passed away peacefully at the age of 92, surrounded by many of her children and grandchildren in El Paso, Texas.
Josefa Nevarez was born on March, 13, 1931 in Santiago Papasquiaro in Durango, Mexico. She attended Collegio Minerva High School locally and would later graduate from Collegio Teresa Saracho. Josefa was the youngest of 4 daughters born to Jesus Quinones and Panfila Nevarez.
Josefa would marry the love of her life, Jorge Martinez on June 20th, 1951. Together they would have 9 children, 28 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jorge Martinez who passed on December 28th, 2008.
She is survived by her children, son Arturo-spouse Leonor, daughter Concepcion-spouse Federico Lopez, daughter Teresa, son Jorge-spouse Isela, son Gerardo, daughter Monserrat-spouse Ernesto Santillanes, son Francisco-spouse Flora, son Daniel-spouse Gabriela, daughter Rosario-spouse Paul Clifford. All grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Josefa was a woman of strong Catholic faith and would often bless her children, and grandchildren upon their departure. You couldn’t help but feel something special and closer to God after she blessed you. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also affectionately known as Pina and Chepa by her family and close friends. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and cooking meals for her extended family. Recently, she was annointed, St. Josefina. She will be deeply missed by her lovely family and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a Funeral Mass at 6:00pm on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Final Viewing will be from 8:00am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
