Jose "Guero" Vera

Jose “Guero” Vera joined our heavenly father in eternal rest on February 17, 2008. Joe was born to Jose and Rosa Vera in Fierro, NM on February 7, 1927. He is preceded in death by his daughter Norma Barrios, sisters Dolores Vera, Esther Tovar, and Jessie Schroeder. He is survived by his wife, Estela Franco and children, Joe III, Ricky, Tony, Joanne, Melissa, and Cindy. Sisters, Lupe Escajeda, Mary Charay, Bonnie Casas, and brother, John Vera. Also survived by fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Joe served in the US Army but made his career of 39 years with the El Paso Electric Company. His love of music, especially the big band sounds of his generation will always remind us of him. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching football and boxing, and was an avid softball player. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9;00 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a vigil/rosary at 7:00 pm. Scripture Service will be celebrated at 9:30 am, Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast.
