Jose Ortiz

March 1, 1934 — June 11, 2023

El Paso, Texas

Jose Ortiz was a father of 8 children, 3 men 5
women. and grandfather of 16 he had a big
heart for all of us.

He was a generous man.He always made
sure his children felt welcomed in his home.
Quick to offer food and drinks. A father that
never asked for anything. Very independent
and the only thing he always yearned for was
a visit from all his children & grandchildren.
He always was up early and would get ready
all dressed up with cologne and tejana like if
going to a fiesta. He liked Western Mexican
movies and liked Vicente Fernandez, Javier
Solis. AntonioAguilar and Jose Alfredo
Jimenez.. He was a funny, joker dad and
grandpa. We always had our laughs with him.
He also was a man that took care of his long
time companion of many years Maria. He took
care of her like no one else would ever have
done especially when she struggled with
breast cancer. They both were each others
strength and support. | will never forget his

smile, how he grew his own chile colorado,
and would give us boxes of delicious cookies.
We enjoyed talking about boxing fights and
his childhood.

My dad was very involved in our childhood he
took us to Washington swimming pool he
would buy avocado Bolio and salchichon de
mexico., melon cut it on his truck we would
eat it under a tree. Trees and the levi will
always remind me of my dad. He took us to
Juarez to eat flautas, parque borunda, the
circus and feria in Juarez. Here in El Paso he
would take us to the drive-in every weekend.
When we lived in California he would go to
Tijuana and come back with a big box of
second hand clothes and high heels so we
could play dress up. We girls hang out with
Dad until our late teens when we we're
embarrassed to be seen with our dad and
rather be with our friends. He always let us
know where he was at over the years and as

we got more mature we began to see him
often because of my oldest brother Pepe who
would take us to see him then my dad found
out where we would live and he would go visit
us . Our dad never failed to take pan dulce/
sweet bread to have coffee with us. He was
there for his daughters if they needed a ride
anywhere he also helped a lot of other people
that did not have vehicles. He always had a
truck so he would help other people moving
things or delivered things for them that they
had bought. My dad would never ask for
anything in return all he yearned for was
company. There wouldnt be a week where he
wouldnt call to say hello and check on us.
