Jose Melendez

Jose Melendez, 60, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Jose was born in El Paso, TX on November 20, 1962. He graduated from Burges High School and went on to continue his education in Business Management. Throughout his lifetime he held many jobs as a security guard, he also worked at Western Auto but ultimately became, as he called it, a Professional Paid Tourist AKA Over the Road Truck Driver. Jose would later on marry Elisa Ortiz in 2002 and remained together until her passing in October 2015.

Jose worked for many different trucking companies including starting his own. He would move on to CFI for 15 years which led him into the Million Mile Club which he held with high regard. In all of his trucking career he had a combined total of over three million miles, he was fortunate enough to join the Munoz Trucking Company here in El Paso, TX in 2022 until his recent passing.

Jose is preceded in death by his loving parents Manuel and Rosaura T. Melendez, his loving sister Trini Bejarano (Enrique), his wife Elisa Ortiz-Melendez. He leaves behind his two sons Jose (Mandy), Nicholas (Jisselle), his loving girlfriend Cecy Vasquez (Sarah, Erika), his sisters Marta Hurtado (Carlos), Rita De Anda (Antonio), Yoile Rivas (Sal) and his baby sister Mona Cossio (Galo), his brothers Victor Melendez (Mary) and Louie Melendez (Elva).

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar. Interment will follow at 11:30 AM at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
