Jose Gilbert Luna, 73, born in Puerto de Luna, NM on May 5, 1938 was one of 11 children. Gilbert grew up in Vaughn, NM where he graduated from the Vaughn Municipal School. He left to serve his country shortly after graduation. Gilbert served proudly in the U.S. Army for 20+ years where he served in Vietnam and Korea. He continued his career in civil service with White Sands Missile Range until his final retirement from the White Sands Generator Shop. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and he was instrumental at his granddaughter's elementary school as a volunteer. He was preceded in death by his parents Mariano Luna, Sr. and Francisca Luna; his first wife, Lena Luna; brothers and sisters, to include in-laws, Josefa & Napoleon Sisneros, Lugarda & Luis Saiz, Marcelino & Irene Luna, Vidal Luna, Mariano Luna, Jr., Manuela Luna, George and Alice Luna, and Santiago Luna. He is survived by his wife, Oki Luna; son, Wesley Gardner; daughters, Angela Waters and Amparo Boles; son-in-law, Sammie Boles, Jr.; grandchildren, Diante Waters, Jourdan Waters, Michaela James, Micahia James, and Sammie Boles III; brothers, Salomon Luna, Jose Ernesto & wife Erlinda Luna of Albuquerque; sister, Amy Luna Lucero & husband Boni of Vaughn; Sister in laws, Terry Luna and Viola Vigil of Albuquerque; his best friend, Antonio (Tony) Reyes, Jr.; many nephews, nieces, & friends. Visitation will be held from 5:00- 9:00 pm, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm at Christ the Savior Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Christ the Savior Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
