Joe was born February 10, 1929 and was a life-long resident of El Paso, Texas. Joe passed away on July 22, 2012 at 83 years old. Joe was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. “GoGo” was retired from the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service with over 45 years of public service, including a tour of duty with the U.S Army at Fort Benning, GA. Joe was a 1948 graduate of Bowie H. S. and a member of the Bowie H. S. 49ers and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a unique handyman with nothing he couldn’t fix and an avid storyteller, captivating the hearts of all who heard them. Joe was an exceptional and passionate dancer; igniting a special chemistry with his wife that would inspire others to join them on the dance floor. He loved animals and was a Clint Eastwood enthusiast, enjoying action and western movies. Joe is survived by his lovely wife of 62 years, Victoria (Vicky), daughter Rita Rubio (Jerry), sons Richard, (Martha), Jaime (Holly) and Daniel (Rosa) Gomez. Sister Herlinda (Tomas) Huerta and brothers’ Juan Jr. (deceased) (Gloria), Lucio and Manuel (Cecilia) Gomez. Grandchildren Natalie, Adelina, Benjamin, Teresa, Florlinda, Monica, Ricardo, Gabriel, Vincent, Marina, Gabriella and Jaime Jr. and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home - East. Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home East. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, TX 79906 on July 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
