Our beloved hero, Jose Diaz, passed away on May 18, 2009 at Sierra Medical Center. Eighty eight years young, he was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico. Diaz, as his friends called him, was a long time resident of El Paso. A humble decorated soldier, veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam he served this country proudly for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carmen. He will be deeply missed by those he left behind. He is survived by his son Jose (Timmy) Diaz, daughter Jeanette (Kandy) Sanchez, son in law Francisco (Paco) Sanchez, grandson Omar Sanchez, granddaughter Dorian Sanchez and sister Zoraida Tato. Those who loved him deeply will always remember him as a quiet, gentle man with great strength of character. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with Vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 1:15 p.m., Friday, May 22 at St. Michael’s Chapel No. 2 at Fort Bliss. Interment will follow to Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
