Jose Davalos

March 23, 1922 — August 9, 2010

Beloved family patriarch, valuable member of the El Paso Community was unexpectedly taken from us on Monday, August 9, 2010 at the age of 88. Mr. Davalos, affectionately known as “PAPA JOSE” because of his abundant grandchildren and great grandchildren was born in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico on March 23, 1922. He began to work at the young age of 12 to help his parents support the family. At 25 he met the love of his life Elodia in CD. Juarez, Chih. Mexico and married deeply in love. Mr. Davalos was a hard working laborer and adobe brick maker who built his home from the ground up. Jose and Elodia started a family of 5 daughters and 9 sons, and worked as a “brazero” in the U.S. to support his growing family. Mr. Davalos became a permanent U.S. resident while working in the Lumber industry and slowly began to petition for his family. In 1972 his family finally immigrated into the U.S. and settled in El Paso, Texas. At the age of 78, he along with his beloved wife Elodia Davalos, became proud citizens of the U.S. they also renewed their vows on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. Davalos was a family man and enjoyed his final years with his family. Avid domino, poker player, and boxing fan he enjoyed spending time in his garden taking care of his fruit trees and his property. Mr. Davalos will be greatly missed by all and remembered for his strong will, dedicated work ethic and proud father, son, brother, grand father and friend. “ Mi Papa sigues siendo el campeon!” Te adoramos y extrañamos hoy y siempre, tus hijos. Jose Davalos is survived by his daughters: Cristina, Rosa E., Maria de la Luz, Maria de los Angeles, and Elodia. Sons: Jose M., Nabor, Benito, Juan, Salome, Jesus, Romualdo, Gabriel, Roberto and Andres. Preceded in death by his wife; Elodia Davalos, son, Ricardo Davalos.. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Wednesday, August 11, 2010 with a Vigil at 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Funeral Mass will be at 1 pm Thursday, August 12, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catherdral. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral.
