Jose Raul Barraza

May 9, 1950 — March 12, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce Jose Raul Barraza, age 70, was called back home to our heavenly Father on March 12, 2021. Raul was born to María Guadalupe Barraza† on May 9, 1950 and was brother to Rogelio Ventura† and Horacio Castellanos. He married his lifelong partner of 55 years, Margarita Barraza, on February 6, 1966. Together they had four children Raul Barraza Jr., Ruth G. Gongora, Hector Barraza, and Luis A. Barraza†. Raul had seven grandchildren Anna, Kayla, Ernie, Junior, Nahomy, Luis, and Kenneth†. He also had twelve great-grandchildren Sophia, Elijah, Myrna, Leah, Elianna, Adreanna, Christian, Aiden, Josie, Olivia, Luis, and Sebastian. Raul was the proud owner of L H & R Signs & Lighting for 25 years. He loved fishing, was a hard worker, a great friend, wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law but overall loved his family greatly. Raul always expressed how proud he was of the family his wife and he had created. Raul was received by his mother, son, brother, and grandson in the gates of heaven. His departure leaves a great void in the hearts of family and friends, but his memories, teachings, advice, and kind words will live on forever in each one of us. We all love you more than you could ever imagine and thank you for always being there through the smiles, tears, accomplishments, and fears. We all know you fought for your family until the last moment. “Chato” this is not a goodbye but a see you later. Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9205 N. Loop on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
