Jorge Santiago Lopez
Jorge S. Lopez, went to be with our heavenly father on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in El Paso, Texas.
Mr. Lopez was a resident of El Paso for over 65 years, where he attended Bowie HS, Class of 1964. He proudly served in the United States Navy, and was a Vietnam veteran. Mr. Lopez studied Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department and also worked in land development, road, bridge and general construction industries until his retirement. He served as the El Paso Texas Boxing and Wrestling Commissioner in the late 70’s, and enjoyed coaching youth sports including the Arlington Falcons/Cowboys Football and was associated with Northgate Optimist Baseball for many years. After his retirement, he enjoyed creating fine carpentry and artisan woodwork.
Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Sylvia Lopez and his children; Laura Rodriguez, Jorge S. (Angelica) Lopez II, Rafael M. (Lisa) Lopez, Victor D. (Isela) Lopez and Adrian O. Lopez.
He had 9 grandchildren; Claudia, Isabel, Jorge III, Brianna, David, Imelda, Rafael II, Valerie and Daniel.
He is also survived by his sisters Raquel (Augustin) Aguirre, Sara (Lorenzo) Carrillo and brother Rafael (Carolina) Lopez. Preceded in death by his parents, Hortencia Benavente and Santiago Lopez.
Mr. Lopez’ family would like to thank family and friends who have called and paid their respects. We thank Humberto and Lorena from CIMA Hospice for their gentle and loving care of our beloved father in his final days. We also would like to thank Pastor Ralph Sanchez who will deliver the funeral service.
Our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather will be greatly missed until we are all reunited again with our Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 21, 2015 5:00pm – 9:00pm with Prayer Service at 7:00pm Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 12pm at Sun City Christian Center, 4000 Hercules, El Paso, TX 79904 immediately followed by Interment at 1:30pm Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors; 5200 Fred Wilson, El Paso, TX 79906.
