John R. Windell, age 68, departed the world in Sunday, August 20, 2023. John was the older of his twin brother. John was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia on July 23, 1955 completing his parents’ family with 6 children. John’s first days of life were a struggle but he always enjoyed life to the fullest. John loved to make others laugh. His father served in the military, the family moved a bit until they settled in El Paso, Texas.
John attended Andress High School and played on their football team. After he graduated, he went into the Army and bravely served his country. Later, he met the love of his life Nancy Melugin and they married on June 30, 1990. They lived in El Paso then the pair moved to Burley, Idaho. Where they happily welcomed their daughter Julianna. They finally settled back in El Paso to help care for his mother who departed in 2015. John was a member of The Jesus Christ Church of Latter-Day Saints and loved to serve the Lord and others. His passion in life was football and was a proud supporter of the Dallas Cowboys. His death was preceded by his parents Roland and Elsie Windell, Linda Lumpkin (sister), James Windell (twin brother). He left behind Nancy Windell, Julianna Windell (daughter), Susan Reed (sister), and brothers Robert and David Windell and many family members too numerous to include. John was an amazing man with a beautiful heart that will forever leave a mark on those he interacted with.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, September 05, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Funeral Service will begin at 11:30am on Wednesday, September 06, 2023 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5510 Hondo Pass Drive. Committal Service to follow at 1:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
