John W. Turner

April 18, 1940 — July 7, 2011

John William Turner, better known as Johnny, passed away on July 7, 2011. He fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 18, 1940 in Alton, Illinois but spent most of his life in El Paso, Texas. He was a 1958 graduate of Ysleta High School and from 1958-1965, he was in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. His farm equipment career spanned decades, and he was Vice President of Romney Implement in Fabens and Tornillo for many years. He loved his work and hanging proudly near his desk was the framed quote Blessed is he who has found his work. Let him ask no other blessedness. He was a deeply patriotic man who displayed the American flag with pride, and proud to call Texas his home. He enjoyed hunting near the family cabin in the New Mexico mountains. Our father loved his family, his dogs, tractors, twinkling lights but most of all, he loved all of you. He spent his life making friends and keeping friends. His beautiful spirit weaves through our hearts. An eternal optimist, he greeted each day with grace and a smile. He had a sensational sense of humor, a warmth beyond words, deep blue eyes and a voice as warm as a summer breeze. He never missed a chance at humor, and even in the twilight of his life he kept us laughing. He is preceded in death by his parents T.G. and Helen Turner, and nephew Chad Turner. He is survived by his children Christian Dean (Debbie) of Albuquerque, NM, Todd Wayne (Sharon) of Bremerton, Wa., Marjey Turner Sell (Phil) of El Paso, Tx., Mark Turner (Springfield, Ill.), sister Ann Nunez Hurt (Paul) of El Paso, Tx, and brother Steve Turner (Jo) of Cloudcroft, NM. He had 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Chesbro and Martha Boyle RN, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Heydemann, and the staff at CIMA Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, his children request donations be made to a charity of their choice in his honor. Pallbearers are James Rascoe, Gerry Lafoe, Jim Randall, Todd Turner, Chris Turner and Steve Turner. Honorary pallbearers are Schuyler Nash, Mike Nunez, Mike Lafoe, Jimmy Rawls, Paul Hurt, Phil Sell, Tyler Sell and Dylan Sell. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana Ave. We will feel the whisper of his spirit forever. I love you Dady. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
