John J Severns

John "Doc" Severns On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, John "Doc" Severns passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a hard-fought battle with lung and bone cancer and was reunited with his loving wife, Alla. It was a fight he fought with dignity, strength, courage, and humor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He grew up in South El Paso, a graduate of Cathedral High School, served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Maryland. He was a longtime law enforcement servant serving with the El Paso Police Department, the U.S. Border Patrol and the DEA, as well as a lab chemist at Thomason Hospital. John was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Alla C. Severns. He is survived by his Son, John J. Severns Jr, and Daughter-in-Law, Virginia Severns; Daughter, Cyndi Severns-Ponce; his only grandchild, his pride and joy, Orion Hunter Monterrey, and his animals whom he considered his children, Runtly, Roscoe, Carlos, Miracle, Sister and Brindle. We would like to thank Dr. Haroutioun Shahinian and Hospice of El Paso for the care and support during the past six months. In lieu of flowers, please donate to services that care for domestic animals. John will be remembered for his strength, his sweet deposition, his willingness to give to anyone in need, always taking care of his family, his humor, and his favorite song "Jingle Bells" no matter the time of the year. Thank you for all the life lessons, all the compassion your taught us, your big heart, and all the serenades of Jingle Bells. Dad, your favorite son, your favorite daughter and your favorite grandson will carry on all those live lessons and all the Jingle Bells. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Monday March 1, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas with a Rosary at 2:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 12:00 p.m., at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 8600 Winchester.
