Joe John Mills, 91, passed away on Sunday, August 13th, 2017.
John, as he preferred to be called, was born in Ysleta, Texas on October 9th, 1925. He graduated from Ysleta High School and served in the Army Air Corp in World War II as a side-gunner in a B-17 before marrying his high school sweetheart and the love of his life in 1947, Patricia, and attending the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering.
After college, John began his career at Monsanto and moved to El Paso Natural Gas Company a couple of years later, where he stayed for the next twenty-nine years. Working close to home, he enjoyed fatherhood, even serving as a Boy Scout leader while raising his two sons. Forever inventive and resourceful, John entertained himself finding creative ways to save or make money and sharing time with his sons. A faithful servant of God his entire life, John attended and served his church tirelessly. In retirement, John enjoyed traveling with Patricia and he visited several continents in his work as well. Always the devoted husband, he helped care for Patricia in their waning years until her passing in December 2016. Grieving from the loss of his love of sixty-nine and a half years (he was looking forward to their 70th anniversary), John made a valiant effort but his heart finally succumbed and he passed away peacefully at home, with his sons by his side. John will be missed dearly. He had the patience of a saint (which he needed raising his two sons), a sweet spirit and an infectious smile.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents, Charles and Catherine; and his siblings, Charles and Holly. He leaves behind his two sons, Robert (Bob) and Glenn.
Committal Service will begin at 1:30pm on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to charities of the donators’ choice.
