John A. Marino

January 30, 1923 — June 14, 2008

John A. Marino, 1923-2008, left this world for a better place. Preceded in death by his parents, 2 siblings, and daughters, Mary Elizabeth Blosser and Michal Anne Mikulyuk. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine D. Marino, brothers, Timmy Marino and Al Marino, cousin, Rose (Willie) Ventola, son, Henry (Miriam) Chavira, daughters, Priscilla Rutherford and Jody (Frank) Prichard, grandchildren, Marc Chavira, Alex Chavira, Gina Marie Hopkins, Nannette Gran, Misty LeRoy, John LeRoy, Matthew Richards, and Shawn Mikulyuk, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. John was born in Boston, MA where he joined the US Army and participated in the Liberation of the Philippines during World War II. He was awarded several medals including 5 Battle Stars, a Bronze Star and several Purple Hearts. He ended his military service at Fort Bliss with the US Army Air Defense Board in testing and development. He was heavily involved with the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, being a lifetime member of both the Legion and the VFW. He was elected Post Commander two years in a row for American Legion Post 58. He leaves us with many joyful memories and will be dearly missed. For those wishing to say their final goodbyes visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 pm, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a vigil at 7:00 pm. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Please join us in the celebration of his life at the American Legion Post58, at 4724 Vulcan immediately after the funeral. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
