John Thomas Likely

John Thomas Likely, Sr, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was born in Cordele, GA to Iravera and Fred Likely on November 25, 1929. He served 24 years in the United States Army where he attained the rank of Seargant First Class. He fought in the Korean War and served three tours during the Vietnam War. He was awarded several service awards including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, retiring in 1976. He then worked Civil Service at Fort Bliss and for the El Paso Independent School district. John was united in holy matrimony to Earllean "Cookie" Legé in 1967. They were married for 45 years. Two children, Jason Likely and Cristiane "Tia" Likely were born from this union. John accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and he was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served in many capacities including within the Deacon Ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, son John Thomas Likely, Jr., daughter Verna Likely and stepchildren Kenneth Legé, Renee Legé, Monica Wells and Carey Legé. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Cookie, two sons Frederick Likely and Jason, one daughter Cristiane and one sister, Irene Daniel. He is also survived by his step children, Milton Legé (Margo), Elisa Pearson, Derek Legé, Chandra Etter, Tonoa Legé and Sherri Bongo (Conrad). John is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm with a Funeral Service at 12 pm Monday, June 25, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 3400 Wyoming. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, with full military honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N. Carolina Dr.
