John Wesley Lee

July 29, 1927 — July 30, 2020

John Wesley Lee Jr. was born on July 29, 1927 in Fairfield Texas to the late Ruthie Lee and John W. Lee Sr. He graduated from Dogan High School in Fairfield in 1946. Later that year a young John left Fairfield Texas in search of the American dream. John traveled to Dallas Texas and began to work at Wyatt's Cafeteria, where he met and fell in love with Reberter R. Richardson. She captured his heart and the two joined in holy matrimony on 8 March 1950. John realized that he wanted to travel and make a better life for his family, so on 20 September 1950 he enlisted in the United States Army and finally crossed the Texas state line. John served in the United States Army as a Food Operations Sergeant for twenty-seven years where he retired as a Master Sergeant on 1 October 1977. His last duty assignment was at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas. Over the course of his military service John was awarded numerous awards and accommodations to include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Korean Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Army John returned to El Paso and went to work as a Civil Service Employee with the Defense Commissary Agency where he worked for the next ten years. In 1987 John decided that he was ready to fully retire because his work was getting in the way of the amount of golf that he was able to play. So, he officially retired and became a frequent visitor to just about every local golf course in the area. John always said that “he made just as much money winning at golf than he did working any day.” John also became an adamant supporter of the local community. He was a dedicated member and faithful servant to many local organizations to include: The El Paso Mountain Lions Club, Texas Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #8919, Prince Hall Masonic Lodge, The Disabled Veterans of America just to name a few. John was also a faithful and dedicated member of the Gospel Service at Ft Bliss here in El Paso TX. John was preceded in death by his four brothers: Theo A. Lee, Leo C. Lee, Calvin W. Lee, Ocie D. Lee, and Cecil U. Lee and his three sisters: Lavaughn Lee-William, Larnella Lee-Horton, and Annie Myrtle-Coleman. To cherish his life, John leaves behind his loving and devoted family; his children: Mark A. Lee and Theresa A. Lee-Martin, his grandchildren: Tyran P. Lee and Brennon B. Fant. He also leaves behind adoring great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and a loving church family.
