John P. Larsen left this earthly life peacefully, in the early morning hours of September 13, 2023. Just 13 days prior to his ninety-first birthday. John was born to John and Edna Larsen in Lucas, Kansas, on September 26, 1932.
He retired as a Sergeant First Class, E8, from the Air Defense Department of the U.S. Army in August of 1973 with more than 20 years of service. His decorations included The Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, The Good Conduct Medal with 5 loops, The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and The National Defense Medal.
After Military retirement John worked several years selling sporting goods. He was a life member of The National Rifle Association, a life member of the Texas Rifle Association, a life member of the Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club and a life member of VFW Post 8919.
John is survived by two daughters. Marlene Seaman of El Paso, Texas and Barbara Powell of Salina, Kansas. Following in his huge footsteps are 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with a Funeral Service at 1:00pm at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. Committal Service to follow at 2:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors, 5200 Fred Wilson.
