John William Byers

John William (Bill) Byers, 88 died Thursday, June 7, 2007. He was the son of the late Annie Brady and George Ballard Byers and was preceded in death by his son Walter Byers, brother Ballard Byers, sister Mary McNellis and grandson, Chris Turner. Bill is survived by his wife Elizabeth Hines Byers, children John Byers, Jr. of Woonsocket, R.I., Janet Reinhart of Austin, Bruce Byers of EI Paso, Gary Byers of EI Paso, Beverly Sanchez of Houston, Carol Byers of EI Paso, David Byers of Austin and Susan Haynes of Cleveland, Ohio, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Bill earned his Business Administration degree from Texas College of Mines before marrying his college sweetheart, Elizabeth Hines. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he resumed his business career with his father-in-law, Edward Hines, at Hines Lumber Co. In 1950 Bill founded Wholesale Building Materials Co. and headed the company until his retirement in 1984. Bill's family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to all those who cared for Bill during his recent illness. Visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm,Wednesday, June 13th at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on June 14th at 1 0:00 am followed by burial at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cima Hospice, West Texas Food Bank or the charity of choice. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
