John Thurman Brock, 58, peacefully passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous 1 ½ year long battle with lung cancer. He was a loving, kind, beautiful spirit loved by all lucky enough to know him. When you met John you didn’t forget his sweet face.
He loved his musical gift of playing drums and learning to play at the age of 14, he started playing professionally when he was 16. John played country, blues, rock and anything else that he could add a beat to but was happiest playing smooth jazz. He played with many bands here in El Paso and Ruidoso and traveled extensively. John never ceased to amaze his audience.
John was proceeded in death by his parents, Ernest and Reba Brock. Survived by his wife who adores and loves him very much, Maria Brock. His son, Brandon Brock whom he was very proud of, stepson, Fernando Vega, who lovingly helped care for him, stepdaughter, Patricia Sibilla who would confide in him, “Ompa” to his “hotcake” Emma Schwartz, and his sister, Lynda Perceval (Bob) who was a great big sister to him.
A special thanks to all of our family and friends who helped in so many ways. Your acts of kindness and prayers gave us great comfort. We love you all.
Big Thanks to Dr. Bryon Chesbro and his staff for helping us fight this horrible battle and Dr. Teresa Reed for acting quickly. The wonderful CIMA Hospice who cared for John in such a kind and tender manner. Our deepest gratitude to all.
