Joan Christie Blake passed away December 22, 2021, at the age of 96. Born May 21, 1925, Joan was raised in El Paso, Texas, by her parents Ynez Dwyer Christie and Harold Edward Christie. She married John Warner Blake when he trained as an Army lieutenant at Fort Bliss during World War II. They were married nearly 70 years when he passed away in 2013. Together they owned and managed Don Caliche’s Garden Center. Like her mother, Joan served as president of the El Paso Woman’s Club. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood for more than 50 years, serving as president of Chapter GL in El Paso, Texas, later joining Chapter AO. Joan enjoyed and was known for painting impressionist southwestern landscapes. She is survived by her children, Christie Godec, Jeanmarie Hamilton, Hal Blake (Sue Litteken), grandchildren, Anne Marie Hamilton-Brehm (Scott), Ynez Henningsen, and Ed Godec, great-grandchildren, Nadia and Amelia Godec, and a great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the El Paso Humane Society or a charity of choice. Services will be from 12:00 to 2:00 on Wednesday, December 29, at Sunset Funeral Homes West, 480 North Resler and streamed online at https://www.facebook.com/sunsetfuneralhome.
