Jimmy Kenneth Howard, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, passed away on November 10, 2023.
The son of Coy Edison Howard and Anna Lorene Howard, Jimmy was born on March 23, 1942 in Abilene, Texas. He grew up in Abilene, where he attended high school. At the age of eighteen, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army. He valued his service and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. As part of his service, he had two tours of duty in Germany, two combat tours in Vietnam along with being stationed stateside. As a result of his deployments, he was awarded the Rifle M-16 Marksmanship Badge, Good Conduct Medal (Eighth Award), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross for Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, as well as numerous other service ribbons, unit citations, and unit commendations.
Jimmy was preceded in death by: his parents, Coy Edison Howard and Anna Lorene Howard, Grandson Adrian Avila, Great-grandson Jimmy Adame and Great-granddaughter Jocelyn Adame.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maria Del Carmen Howard; daughters, Rosa Carrasco (Carlos); Lilia Yvonne Howard; Maria Irene Blocker (Kevin); and Anna Lorene Howard; his sister, Shirley Ann Olson; ten grandchildren, Robert Carrasco, Brittany Carrasco, Kimberly Avila, Nathaniel Vasquez, Areana Vasquez, Aiden Blocker, Logan Blocker, Brianna Howard-Moran, Caleb Howard-Moran, Michael Howard Moran, and five great-grandchildren.
His family and friends will always honor and cherish his keen sense of humor and his love of jigsaw puzzles. They will remember him for his steadfast patriotism and his tremendous willingness to share all he had with others and various charities.
Visitation will be Monday, November 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the service to follow to honor the life of Jimmy K. Howard at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive, El Paso, Texas. Interment will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
