Born and raised in Presidio, Texas the son of Jesus and Adela (Valles) Zavala, Chuy was a lifelong resident of the lower valley in El Paso, Texas. Chuy was born October 9th, 1937.
In his early years, Chuy attended elementary but quickly began to work to help his family. It is in El Paso where he made his family and infamous work habits. Chuy quickly joined the early construction in the modernization of El Paso working for Mr. Jack Vowell (former state representative) and his company Vowell Construction Company. His biggest project was the “Spaghetti Bowl” highway interchange that unites central El Paso to the rest of the city for easy travel. Chuy continued to work all over El Paso for several years that includes various structures and buildings all across the city. His biggest pride was that of the homes of his children and his beloved home with his wife. Chuy had a remarkable passion for family and work ethic. He always instilled into his children to be good people, responsible parents & adults, and work hard for everything in life. He absolutely loved his family above all else. He was a tremendous grandfather and never said no to helping anyone in his life. Chuy believed in the spice of humor and consistently would be joking with his loved ones throughout his life. Chuy was very active and hard working even until his last days. You could always find him working in his beloved home or helping someone in his/hers. Chuy loved his family more than anything else and we will always remember his beautiful smile and his famous one liner, “Give me one, or give me nothing!” A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Dr. with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church (Main), 131 S.
