Born on March 3, 1944, Jesus grew up in Chihuahua, MX, where he developed a strong sense of justice and community from an early age. Jesus immigrated to the United States where he fell in love with his adopted country.
Jesus graduated from El Paso Tech High School and attended UTEP, but he wanted to thank his country for giving him the opportunity to live in the land of the free, so he volunteered for the U.S. Army and proudly served America in the Vietnam War.
His dedication to serving and protecting others led him to a distinguished career in law enforcement, spanning over 30 years.
Upon completing his military commitment, he began his career with U.S. Border Patrol in Del Rio, TX and quickly rose through the ranks due to his unwavering commitment, professionalism, and bravery. He held various roles throughout his tenure, including Immigration & Naturalization Inspector (El Paso Sector), Immigration & Naturalization Special Agent (Los Angeles, CA, and El Paso) where he began to investigate human smuggling cases. The U.S. saw an increase in drug use therefore his investigations changed focus to drug smuggling and trafficking and thus the infamous “Don Chuy” was created in his bid to eliminate the flow of drugs into the United States.
Jesus became the Organized Crime Coordinator for the U.S. Border Patrol as a Sr. Special Agent. He was involved in the confiscation of more than 57 million dollars.
He was the recipient of the prestigious U.S. Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement. He was also honored with a Congressional Proclamation as he earned the respect of colleagues and the community alike. His exemplary service earned him numerous commendations and awards, a testament to his outstanding contributions to public safety and received many other accolades for his undercover work that included infiltrating large scale criminal organizations.
He will always be remembered for his favorite phrase, “Okie Dokie”. Rest in Peace, “Don Chuy” we will carry on the tradition from here.
