Gone to his heavenly home to meet his precious Savior and Holy God, Jerry Dean Draughon, born June 14, 1938 in Springfield, TN passed away September 22, 2011 in El Paso, TX. Served four years in the U.S. Navy, 1955-59. Served seventeen years in the U.S. Army, 1959-76. He served as a Ships’ Radar Navigator, Radar Instructor, and in Military Intelligence in Guam, Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, Korea, Vietnam, Ft. Bliss, TX, Ft. Bragg, NC, and Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Medals: National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Five Good Conduct Medals, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman M-14, and the Bronze Star. Jerry retired from the military and lived in El Paso until 1996. Jerry worked at the El Paso Juvenile Probation Center as Juvenile Probation Officer-Director of Intake for 17 years and retired June 1996. He has two children: son, Daniel Draughon of Ruidoso, NM; daughter: Wendy (Steve) Holt of Liberty Twp, OH; Five grandchildren: Tanner, Hunter, and Makenna Holt of OH; Daphne Draughon of Farmington, NM; Dylan Draughon of OK and Great grandchild, Weston Draughon, NM. Reuniting in heaven with Jerry are his parents, Nancy Belle Poole and Robert T. Draughon . Brothers: Kenneth Draughon and Donald Draughon; Sisters: Connie Hill, Helen Jones and Delores Dobbins. Living with his wonderful memories is his wife of 49 years, Sandra of Ruidoso, NM; brother, Winston Draughon of Portland, TN; Sisters: Bobbie Merville of Nashville, TN; Sylvia Ganious of Greenbrier, TN; Anita (George) Crabtree of Franklin, KY and Faye Couch of Whitehouse, TN. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Organizations: El Maida Shrine Temple of El Paso, El Maida Lizzie Patrol, Masonic Lodge #130 and El Paso Knights Templer #18. Jerry had lived in Ruidoso, NM for the past 15 years and loved it dearly. Viewing: Sunset Funeral Home- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX on Monday, September 26, 2011 from 10:30a.m. - 1:30p.m. Immediately following at 2:00 p.m. will be burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Pastor Stephen Holt officiating. Jerry was a loving, caring man with his own sense of humor. He will be missed in so many different ways. Heaven will be blessed to have him.
