Jeffie Eileen Schoch

April 4, 1924 — March 17, 2012

OBITUARY FOR JEFFIE EILEEN SCHOCH (April 4, 1924 to March 17, 2012) Jeffie Eileen (Mimi) Schoch passed away peacefully on March 17, 2012 in Overland Park, Kansas, after a lengthy and courageous battle with congestive heart failure and other debilitating illnesses. Her family is confident that she is now with the Lord and reunited with her husband, mother and father, and brothers and sisters. Mimi was born on the family farm in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, on April 4, 1924, to Oscar and Lillie May. The youngest child of two brothers and two sisters, she grew up during tough times: the Great Depression and Dust Bowl days. The May farm, many miles from town, was less than a mile away from a country school house --College Mound. Mimi started the first grade at the age of four years because she kept sneaking away from home and showing up at school, so the teachers in the little school house finally decided to let her stay and attend classes before any of the other children in the area. At the age of eighteen Mimi took a clerical job at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. There, this quiet, almost shy, young lady met a rough and tough Yankee soldier from Philadelphia. Their developing friendship quickly turned into love, and Frank Schoch and Jeffie May were married on May 12, 1943 in the Little Chapel at Ft. Sill. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Frank preceded Mimi in death on June 27, 2008. Frank, a Chief Warrant Officer, served over 24 years in the Army; Mimi was always by his side and supported him during his service to our country. Her children grew up as Army brats living all over the world. Mimi and Frank settled in El Paso, Texas, in retirement, where they lived for over 20 years. They moved to Colorado for a few years, and then settled in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After Frank’s death, Mimi finally moved in with her faithful daughter, Pat, who loving took care of her during her final days. Mimi, as kind and as sweet and giving as anybody who has ever walked this earth, was also an accomplished golfer and an outstanding cook, regardless of the cuisine. During the 1970s, her recipes were often the weekly winners of those submitted to the now defunct El Paso Herald Post. Mimi always put her children and grandchildren first and made sure everybody else was okay. She is survived by her four children and their spouses-- Frank Jr. and Linda, Stan and Lori, Pat and Tom Meisenzahl, and Steve and Marlene, thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed greatly by all of them. Mom, we know you are at peace now and that you are reunited with Dad. You were a great inspiration and example for all of us and you will be in our hearts forever. A rosary will be held at Sunset Funeral home on Resler Drive at 7:30 p.m. on 19 April 2012. A mass will be held at Saint Michael chapel on Fort Bliss, Texas, at 1:00 p.m. on 20 April 2012—followed by burial services at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make an honor donation in the name of Jeffie Schoch to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (http://www.pdf.org/en/fund_memdon). Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West. Please visit our online register book at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net
